Design and Artwork

Our in-house artwork team can develop original designs from concept through to final approved artwork, or prepare and reproduce existing artwork for large-format applications.

Projects can begin with existing or proposed branding, preferably supplied as vector artwork where available, together with high-resolution imagery, a written brief, relevant dimensions and details of the intended application. For vehicle graphics, we also need the vehicle details and the dimensions of the available application areas. Where Don-Bur has manufactured the vehicle, these dimensions are already known.

Designing for the application

Commercial vehicle graphics need to work across large surfaces and around features such as doors, curtains and body furniture. The artwork team considers the available application area, its dimensions and whether surfaces are flat, recessed or curved when developing the design.

The same approach can be used for other graphic applications, with the design developed around the dimensions and shape of the intended surface rather than being limited to vehicle liveries.

Concept development and approval

Where a new design is required, we liaise with the customer through conceptualisation and development until the final artwork can be approved. Designs can be presented as 2D or 3D visuals before production, allowing the proposed appearance to be reviewed and amended before sign-off.

Reprographics and artwork preparation

Reprographics involves manipulating and reproducing existing artwork assets so that they are suitable for a larger or differently shaped surface. This can include recreating artwork using the Adobe suite, producing vector artwork where appropriate or increasing pixel density to improve clarity for large-format reproduction.

Vector artwork is particularly useful for graphics that need to be substantially enlarged because it can be scaled without losing resolution. Where pixel-based imagery is required, the available source material can instead be prepared and upscaled for the intended reproduction size where suitable.

Colour matching

Colour references can be matched manually using Pantone or RAL systems to meet a customer's specified colour. Where necessary, printed colour samples can be produced and compared with a supplied sample, with adjustments made until a suitable match is achieved.

Graphics can also be produced using a wide range of pre-coloured vinyl stock where an appropriate material and colour are available.
